I keep ending up in the same conversation.

Different company. Different room. Different title on the door. But the same conversation.

Someone walks me through their AI strategy. There's a roadmap. There's a vendor. There's a demo that's genuinely impressive. And somewhere in the middle of it, I realize the product they're describing still makes the user do most of the work.

Too many clicks. Too much navigation. Too much asking.

I don't say anything in the moment. But I keep thinking about it afterward.

Because the intelligence already exists. The phone in your customer's hand already knows an unbelievable amount about them; where they are, what time it is, how they scroll, where they hesitate, what they almost do before they stop. It knows their routines, their rhythms, their context.

And yet most products still behave like strangers every time you open them.

That's not an AI problem. That's an architecture problem.

The center of computing moved

I think we're living through the biggest shift in computing since the internet. Most people just haven't realized where the shift actually happened.

The phone isn't a screen anymore. It's a sensor layer. A behavioral engine. An inference environment. The device itself now contains dedicated AI silicon capable of running local intelligence in real time without waiting for a cloud response, without a network call, without sending anything anywhere.

That changes everything.

Because for the first time, intelligence can exist where behavior actually happens. On the device. In the moment. Inside the interaction itself.

Most companies are still building like intelligence lives somewhere else; in the cloud, in a dashboard, in a model waiting for a prompt. But behavior doesn't happen there. Behavior happens now. And "now" only exists on the device.

Most products still think the phone is a channel

That's the disconnect.

Most organizations still treat mobile as a delivery mechanism. A screen. A place users go to access the real system. I don't think that's true anymore.

The phone is the system.

Which means the companies that win this shift won't just build better apps. They'll build systems that understand behavior in real time; not after the fact, not three weeks later in a dashboard review, but in the moment itself.

That's the leap most companies still haven't made.

The future isn't asking. It's anticipating.

I keep coming back to Chipotle.

I've ordered the same thing for almost fifteen years. Same meal. Same pattern. Same behavior. And every single time the app still asks if I want guac.

My phone knows where I am. The system knows what I order. The context exists. But the experience still waits for me to do the work.

That's not intelligence. That's software waiting politely.

Real intelligence reduces work. It removes friction before the user experiences it, not after. The future isn't better prompts. It's fewer prompts. It's understanding enough context to stop making people repeat themselves.

Most AI strategies are solving the wrong problem

"We added an AI assistant."

Of course you did. Because assistants fit the current architecture. They live in the cloud. They wait for prompts. They respond to requests. They're additive. They're defensible. They ship.

But that's not the real shift.

The real shift is from response to anticipation. From interaction to interpretation. From explicit behavior to implicit understanding.

Once intelligence moves onto the device, the experience no longer needs to wait. It can adapt quietly, contextually, almost invisibly, in real time. And the most valuable signals aren't demographic anymore. They're behavioral. Scroll rhythm. Dwell time. Location context. Hesitation. Routine.

The companies that learn to read those signals will build products that feel fundamentally different from everything else in the market. Not because they have more features. Because they remove more work.

The next competitive advantage is behavioral understanding

For years, companies competed on information. Then on interfaces. Now I think they'll compete on interpretation.

Who understands the user fastest? Who adapts fastest? Who recognizes intent before the user has to ask?

That's the next platform shift. Not AI as a feature. Intelligence as an environment.

The companies that keep treating AI like something you layer onto an old architecture are going to find themselves in the same place a lot of digital products already are: technically capable, operationally impressive, emotionally exhausting.

Because users don't care how advanced your model is. They care whether the product feels easier. Smarter. Lighter. Whether it understands them.

Most companies still think they're building apps.

The next category of company will build something different, systems that understand context, reduce friction, and quietly adapt to behavior in real time. Not the endpoint. The center.

The shift isn't more AI.

It's a different relationship between people, products, and intelligence itself.
